The experience of encounter

In our society, significant gaps exist between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged groups, and these gaps are further widened by different types of segregation. Our association aims to bring attention to this issue. We establish a secure and inclusive space for children from diverse social backgrounds to come together and learn from one another.Our goal is to help children from all backgrounds feel they belong to a community and support them to become understanding and resilient adults. We achieve this through experiential educational activities, team sports, games, arts and crafts and outdoor adventures.To ensure that all interested children have equal opportunities to participate and develop, our programs are offered free of charge to for everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Our programs

Kacsakő Sports Camp

Since 2019, we have been organizing week-long sports and adventure summer camps for children aged 10-16 who come from various social backgrounds. Fair play team sports, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, and various workshops offer lifetime experiences for the participating children.

Kacsakő Klub

We organize regular club sessions for the children with exciting activities that take us back to the cheerful and inclusive atmosphere of the summer camps. These programs aim to assist in maintaining the friendships formed during the camps, while we also warmly welcome new participants.

Kacsakő Next

The Kacsakő Next program is part of the international three-year-long initiative Generation Europe - The Academy, which is open for our campers aged 14 and above. The participants, now considered "Buddies", take on more responsibilities within the Kacsakő community and work on their own social project to take steps against social inequalities.

Our goal

With Kacsakő, we create a secure and inclusive bubble for children from diverse social backgrounds to come together, learn from one another, and foster a community. Our objective is to unite children from various backgrounds, including Roma and non-Roma, representing minority and majority groups, both from economically disadvantaged and middle-class families. We aim to reduce prejudice and social gaps while supporting their psychosocial development. We assist children in resolving conflicts within a safe setting and encourage them to understand each other's perspectives. We believe that through these efforts, we help shape socially aware and resilient adults capable of handling misunderstandings in their lives.We believe that inclusive sports and adventure programs play a significant role in reducing children's biases and empowering them to advocate for their interests. Our programs are based on non-formal, experiential, and outdoor learning methods. We place a particular emphasis on fair play sports as they serve a universal language that bridges cultural differences.Our games involve teams collaboratively establishing rules and practicing democratic decision-making. Playing without referees fosters children's ability to stand up for themselves and their team when they witness injustice or foul in play.

Transparency

We find it important to communicate openly and honestly and to respect the rules we have agreed on, so we have gathered the basic information and documents that we use to run our association.

The experience of encounter

We believe that inclusive sports and adventure programs help reduce children's prejudices and empower them to communicate their interests. The main tools of our organised programmes are based on non-formal, experiential and outdoor learning methods. We pay particular attention to fair play sports, as sport is a great way to bring children together at this age, regardless of their family background. Setting the rules of the game together allows them to practice democratic decision making and encourages them to stand up for themselves and others when they experience injustice. We create a safe environment for them to mediate conflicts and encourage non-violent communication and problem-solving.

Our methods

Fair play sports

Laying down the rules of the matches together lets the children practice democratic decision making. Playing the games only with the support of an adult mediator we empower them to stand up for themselves when they experience injustice.

Arts & crafts

Besides team sports, we create the opportunity for individual focus through arts & crafts activities where children can develop their manual skills while they practice self-expression and build their self-esteem.

Adventures

Stepping out of the comfort zone opens up the world of the children and contributes to tackling the challenges in their lives. Participating in these programs also fosters group cohesion.

Teamwork

We create diverse groups of children and we support positive changes in group dynamics by implementing a project together. While working in small groups, we provide a safe place for reflection.

Food for thought workshops

We discuss topics that affect and concern the children in smaller groups. For instance, we have conversations about friendships and relationships, conflict management techniques, prejudice, lifestyle and diverse social issues.

Programs with special guests

These programs bring a new color to the everyday life of the camp, including capoeira, break dancing and improvisational drama sessions to enrich children with new skills and experiences.

Take a look at the camps

2023

Almost unbelievable, but this was our fifth Kacsakő Camp! Thanks to year-round club programs and team-building weekends, we have grown into the community we dreamed of when we started. Once again, we came home with many wonderful experiences, new friends and pockets full of cathartic or even light-hearted moments of laughter.

2022

The best thing of the year! Playing quidditch in the meadow; cherry rice with compote at noon; playing "kitten" in the waters of Lake Vadkert; camp-dancing in the sunset; play a little raffle with "kacsavics" money; totally not use Fb for a week...

Nordson 2021

Thanks to the generous support of Nordson Matrix, we organized our camp with renewed enthusiasm. Due to workshops for our professional development, we had the most prepared and diverse team of camp leaders this year. We approached the camp with a fresh perspective in a new location, Soltvadkert.

2020

The first campers returned to Hollókő as friends. They took part in improved Kacsakő adventures with a more cohesive counselor team.

2019

The first Kacsakő Sports Camp. The experience of the first encounter between a handful of young camp counselors and a group of children. New faces, new adventures, tradition-building activities, and a week of emotional rollercoasters.

We are the new generation

The Kacsakő Next program is for experienced participants over the age of 14, who are now "buddies" and take on a more responsible role in the Kacsakő community.As part of the Generation Europe - The Academy international program, Kacsakő Next aims to build teams, develop the skills of the youngsters (e.g. communication, teamwork, creativity), develop English skills and offer international experiences. The program runs for three years between 2022 and 2024, and consists of the following elements:
• Regular meetings and mini-camps: participating in team-building activities and adventures;
• Practicing English: and participating in challenges with an application;
• Yearly participation in international camps (Germany, Hungary, Portugal): developing intercultural competences;
• Participation in the KacsaKő Camp as "Buddies";
• Social project: planning and implementing a social project to take steps against inequalities

The project is supported by the European Union and the Mercator Stiftung
